Eric Isaac’s inspiration

“From the time I was young and growing up, the highlight of every year was the family trip”, Eric Isaac tells us. Eric first worked for Seistech back in 2003 and then re-joined Seistech in 2007 where he has worked as party chief and now as offshore survey representative. “Travel and adventure were to me one and the same. While finishing university studies I continued to have the travel bug, so my focus was on landing a job that not only provided travel, but international travel in particular. Marine and aviation careers are two that offer that particular opportunity for those with the right skills.”

Prospects

“This is what motivated my start in the offshore oil industry. Even though the long term trend for the oil industry (as a percent of the overall economy) is down, the prospect for the near-term future is good offshore. As oil demand increases and supply becomes increasingly scarce, marine development offers the greatest prospect for future exploitation. This is partly due to the fact that two-thirds of the earth’s surface is covered by water. Demand for expertise in the marine environment will naturally increase to meet global energy demands. This partly explains the motivation to remain in the industry.”

Professional

“In addition, working as consultants in the international oil industry we are offered a professional environment that is challenging, rewarding, creative and respectful of cultures, ideas and individuals. Consultants are afforded high profile and high visibility assignments that are very interactive with people and cultures from the world over. And finally, working at sea offers the opportunity to experience team work at a level rarely seen. It is not the right career for everybody, and is not at all as glamorous as it may sound. It can be very equally rewarding and exasperating especially for family and friends. However, in my opinion it has been a good career choice.”
