Eight team members of Atlas Services Group will participate in the 2012 edition of Alpe d’HuZes to cycle six times the Alpe d’Huez and raise funds for cancer research.
Alpe d’HuZes
Alpe d’HuZes is an initiative to raise funds for cancer research. The participants help fight cancer by cycling up the Alpe d‘Huez six times in one day. The name Alpe d’HuZes is a combination of the Dutch word for “six” (Zes in Dutch) and the name of the mountain “Alpe d’Huez” (13,8 km, average of 7.9%). It is endorsed by KWF Kankerbestrijding (the Dutch Cancer Society).
Goal
The ultimate goal of this initiative is to evolve cancer from a deadly disease into a chronic illness. Team Atlas Services Group shares this dream and will therefore participate in the 2012 edition. Participants of the Alpe d’HuZes take it upon themselves to cycle up the Alpe d’Huez as many times as possible, but six is the common target (and the maximum number of times allowed). Many participants gain extra motivation from getting their sponsors to raise the stakes after each climb they complete. Last year a total amount of 20,1 million euro’s was donated.
Why is Atlas Services Group participating?
As you might know cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. We, as a recruitment agency, work with people every day; more than 1,500 professionals work via our company worldwide in the energy and marine industry. Every year, we are confronted with employees who work via us and are dealing with cancer.
Besides, most of us will be (or have been) confronted with cancer privately. Our team personally knows people who have fought or are fighting against cancer. With the help of medicine and research, we can make cancer a chronic disease instead of a deadly one so that more people will survive from cancer. Research is therefore crucial and money is needed!
